After a very successful performance on Saturday, December 8 by the Power trio at Portishead's ATP weekend at Butlin's Minehead, Head Heritage is pleased to announce the release of a semi official bootleg recording of Brain Donor at The Thekla, Bristol. The recording was done by a member of the audience, a fact that is reflected in the £5.99 price tag. A bargain I'd say!

Julian's new album You Gotta Problem With Me has been released and is now available to buy in the merchandiser section of Head Heritage. There was talk at one time of it also being released on vinyl, but for now its available as a double cd. Here is the description from HH:
"On this, Julian Cope’s first new album for 18 months, he addresses such currently controversial issues as religion, misogyny and homophobia, corporate greed and the destruction of Mother Earth. Cope delivers his message via 13 insidiously melodic post-punk songs in the JEHOVAHKILL style, many sparsely orchestrated with Mellotron, wah-wah guitars, orchestral percussion and even lush harmonies. Released across two 28-minute-long CDs, YOU GOTTA PROBLEM WITH ME is accompanied by a 16-page booklet of insights, hard-hitting information, and one very epic poem."

A couple of days on from seeing the first night of the tour in Barrow-in-Furness and thought I should write and tell. If Sunday night is a predictor for the tour then its going to be a truly great one. Julian was on excellent form, tons of songs old and one new, hilarious banter. No curfew for the venue meant that Julian performed for almost 2 1/2 hours.

Seeing him perform, I realised why I love this guy. He entertains, enthralls and also throws in a bit of education to boot. It was amazing to stand there and watch him play as at times it sounded like there was a whole band backing him and and I had to stop and realise it was just the man and his guitar and keyboard (the 24 ton agricultural mellotron didn't make it up the M6 though).
[Note: Sorry, I had to remove the vid clips due to exceeding bandwidth quota]

A quick perusal of Amazon.co.uk shows that you can now pre-order copies of Julian's book Japrocksampler: How the Post-war Japanese Blew Their Minds on Rock 'n' Roll, which is set to be published by Bloomsbury Publishing PLC on September 3, 2007.
Here is the synopsis from amazon.co.uk:
Julian Cope, eccentric and visionary rock musician, hip archaeologist and one time frontman of Teardrop Explodes, follows the runaway underground success of Krautrocksampler, a cult deconstruction of German rock music, with "Japrocksampler". "Japrocksampler" is a short history of Japanese youth culture in the post-war years. It explores the clash between traditional, conservative Japanese values and the wild rock and roll renegades of the 1960s and 70s, telling the tale of six seminal groups of artists in Japanese post-war culture, from itinerant art-house poets to violent refusenik rock groups with a penchant for plane hijacking. Cope tours regularly and has just brought out a new album, "Dark Orgasm". His website, Head Heritage, is widely acknowledged as containing some of the most entertaining and insightful album reviews on the web. Julian's fans (Copeheads) as well as the generally interested reader will lap up this take on the Jap Rock phenomenon.

Head Heritage recently reported that it had discovered a new 14-track album, Christ Versus Warhol, on the internet and immediately bought as many copies as possible so it could offer them to everyone for sale:
"The first eleven songs were recorded in Tamworth in 1983, and appear to have come directly from the studio where they were laid down (The CD’s sub-title reads ‘Julian Cope at Steve Adams’ Studio’). The album features entirely different versions of ‘Quizmaster’, ‘Wreck My Car’, and ‘Strasbourg’, plus forgotten unreleased songs ‘She Brings Me Flowers’ and ‘Jesus Christ & The Mysterons’. There are also three ‘Bonus Songs’ tacked on at the end which have a reduced sound quality, ‘Holy Love’, ‘Mik Mak Mok’ and ‘Bill Drummond Said’. Julian has no recollection of where these last three were recorded, but says they can’t be radio sessions as all three are far too orchestrated for one day recordings. Don’t miss this rare gem as we don’t know how long our limited copies will last."
You can order the cd online for £10.99 + p & p at Head Heritage now.
In other news, following on from last year's release of the Jehovahkill Deluxe 2-cd set, work is currently being done on a deluxe 2-cd reissue of Peggy Suicide.
Julian's next album is also still being worked on and in his words, it will also follow the same 2-cd format as Dark Orgasm. The album is currently titled "You Gotta Problem With Me".
And in other news... I am very pleased to announce that I have recently moved back to England after 15 years in Canada, so now that I am this side of the Atlantic again I look forward to meeting more of you and attending as many Cope gigs as possible!
