No news to report on Julian's throat condition. Various reports
have come out that he has a mysterious throat infection. Whatever
it is Julian, we send you our best wishes for a speedy recovery.
On November 7th I flew through to Vancouver to catch the Spiritualized
show at the Commodore Ballroom. The show was excellent, plus,
thanks to the kindness of Thighpaulsandra, myself and three friends
got to hang out backstage with them afterwards. It was wonderful
to talk with Thighpaulsandra and also to meet the other two thirds
of Brain Donor, Kevlar and Doggen. Truly wonderful people!
Some tidbits of news are:
- The Brain Donor performance at last year's Cornucopea festival
was recorded and will hopefully be released as a live cd sometime
soon.
- There may be some future live BD dates, Probably in Scandinavia,
as that would be the Odinesque place to start!
- Citizen Cained will continue to be on hold as it is waiting
a decent recording/distribution deal for maximum impact!
- Spiritualized will probably be touring the US again in the
spring.
Finally I have got around to adding the recent couple of releases
to this site. They are:

I finally got a copy of the recent Teardrop Explodes collection
mentioned below and I have to say that I am somewhat disappointed
with it. Not because of the songs, I already knew the tracklist,
and even though I am sure there is some unreleased material out
there, I think the tracks are a good selection generally. The
disappointment is in the packagaing. The booklet contains reproductions
of the various 7" single covers and that is about it. There
must be tons of previously unseen photgraphs that could have
been used. The only surprise is the inclusion of the rejected
cover for Ha Ha I'm Drowning which I had never seen before.
The sticker on the front says that the songs were selected by
Julian Cope, but really, were they? The inside says compiled
by Cally after a word with Julian. What the hell does that mean?
Cally: "Hi Julian, I'm doing a compilation for Mecury
of the Teardrop Explodes stuff."
Julian: "Good for you, now get lost will ya."
Cally: "Fair enough."
I guess I was just expecting a bit more, I still hope it sells
a million copies though. I'll add it to the Teardrops music section
soon.

I haven't received my copy yet, but I just found a picture of
the cover for the recently released Teardrop Explodes "The
Greatest Hit" collection. Hopefully my copy will arrive
from Amazon UK soon. Here it is:

I did receive a copy of the Discover Odin cd the other day.
Many thanks to Alison for sending me a copy! Its beautifully
packaged and strangely curious. I'll scan it up this weekend
and post all the details here early next week.

By all accounts the Discover Odin events at the British Museum
on the 4th & 5th were a big success. I hope everyone who
went enjoyed them. The cd programme for the event is now available
at Head Heritage Merchandiser for all those who couldn't make
it. The track list is as follows:
DISCOVER ODIN
1. The 18 Charms of Odin (8.50)
2. Discover Odin (11.45)
3. Ode to Wan (Parts 1&2) (2.17)
4. Yggdrasil & the Stone of Odin (3.16)
5. Road to Yggdrasilbury (17.52)
6. I want to go Wandering (1.32)

And huge congratulations to JoAnne at HH who gave birth to a
baby girl on Saturday. Love and light to both.

I was just browsing through The Guardian's web site and found
a few interesting reviews for Brain Donor, the re-releases of
Kilimanjaro and Wilder and also I found a good review of Julian's
Leeds gig in 2000. Thought you might be interested, so here they
are (also below is some information of a couple of "new" Teardrop
Explodes releases:
Brain Donor
Love Peace and Fuck (Impresario)

£14.99
Julian Cope's career has followed a bizarre trajectory, from spiky pop-chart
infiltrator to stone-worshipping Krautrock-archivist, but Brain Donor may be
his most curious interlude yet. Teaming up with the mysterious Kevlar and Dogman,
the modern antiquarian has formed a "psycho metal stuporgroup", dedicated
to recreating the sonic meltdown of the Stooges and MC5. Although titles such
as Get Off Your Pretty Face suggest Cope's slithery tongue may be some way
within his cheek, he understands the primeval nature of this music intimately
and his pastiche is immaculately delivered. Long-standing Copewatchers often
rue the demise of the pop melodist of Reward, but he makes a welcome reappearance
on Hairy Music. Indeed, Brain Donor's heavy racket has an exuberance that suggests
this exercise does wonders for Cope's muse.

Kilimanjaro (Mercury)

Wilder (Mercury)

£8.99
Twenty years ago, Julian Cope ricocheted out of Liverpool in his fur-trimmed
flying jacket to flabbergast the British public with his neo-psychedelic combo,
The Teardrop Explodes. They only released two albums in their brief lifetime,
and these reissues, crammed with additional singles, include pretty much every
last drip of the 'Drops. Parts of it still sound ludicrous, and the speed-addled
funk basslines on Kilimanjaro soon drive you nuts, but it's almost worth stumping
up the readies solely for Cope's hilarious French version of Treason. Yet if
Kilimanjaro sounds tragically like Spandau Ballet on mescaline, the aptly titled
Wilder is a mini-masterpiece of English whimsy, saturated in Cope's through-the-looking-glass
lyrics and so rabid with musical invention that it's no wonder it blew the
band apart. Seven Views of Jerusalem is a Fabergé egg in sound, and
pop rarely sounded as scintillating as Passionate Friend. A magic swirling
ship indeed.

Guardian, Wednesday October 11, 2000
Julian Cope has nothing to promote. No new book; there hasn't
been a new album for four years. He's touring, he tells us, because
people at his sporadic book-signing sessions said he should.
On one hand, this sums up the eco-warrior author's now seemingly
irreversible marginalisation as a pop performer. But almost three
marvellous hours in his company demonstrate that Cope's unlikely
success is something far more cherishable.
He doesn't even have a record company, never mind kowtow to
one, but creates an intimate, magical antidote to rock's current
sterile, corporate excesses. Cope has spent the past 20 years
trying to convince us that he's weird, but seems to have finally
accepted that he's just extremely funny.
This year's model wears stack heel boots (which render him 8ft
tall), ladies' tights, a camouflage jacket, make-up and about
three tons of matted hair. With his neck dyed blue, he looks
like a neanderthal man reincarnated as a larger-than-life glam
rocker. His appearance may well render this show unsuitable for
small children (who would certainly run away), but at least it's
impossible to look elsewhere.
Half the show is aided by Donald Ross Skinner on bass/ keys
and normal haircut; the rest is just Cope, a guitar, a synthesised
drone and wit. The stripped-down, ghostly voices lean towards
Cope's Fried period, and there are few hits - but plenty of visits
to the back catalogue's political wing.
Like Frank Zappa, Cope appears to have realised that the best
way to deliver a serious message is with humour. Promised Land,
he says, was designed to get rid of Thatcher. "It didn't
work," he sighs. "I needed two or three other songs."
Sunspots is mauled, Me Singing is spellbinding, but there aren't any new songs.
Three years in the making, his Citizen Caned album remains uncompleted. However,
for the moment it is enough for Cope to remind us that he "rocks" (as
he puts it). Thus, for Sleeping Gas, he crawls Iggy-like on his belly, clambers
over the theatre's seats, and finally stands precariously aloft on two chairs. "I'll
be back next time with bigger boots!" he howls. And he probably will.

I would like to express my deepest sadness and symathy in response
to recent events in the United States, and to all victims of
terrorism, hatred, intollerance, racism and bigotry around the
world. It is a tragedy and I urge you all to light a candle and
illuminate the darkness, the world is and always will be an amazing
place to be allive in, and the acts of a few should not overshadow
the beauty and wonderment of it.

Amidst the tragedy and turmoil of recent events in New York
and Washington, my spirits were lifted way up high by the arrival
of Love Peace & Fuck on my doorstep yesterday. If you haven't
already got it, then buy it! It ain't Julian Cope as we know
it, but shit, it rocks. If you like loud guitars and crashing
drums then this is right up your alley. Sorry grandma, there's
no sleep tonight...PLAY THIS POWER TRIO LOUD AS HELL!
Needless to say it has been added to the Julian Cope projects
section:
On another note, the release of the Julian Cope: The Collection
cd, which I mentioned below, has been cancelled. No reason has
been given, probably because they finally realised, theres nothing
new on here folks!

forward to. Details of this can be found at HH.

Tickets are now on sale for Julian's "Discover Odin" at
the British Museum on 4th & 5th October 2001 and can be bought
by phone from the Box Office at the British Museum on 020 7323
818.
The Brain Donor album scheduled for release around now has been
slightly delayed. The following announcement is taken from the
Head Heritage web site:
"Re. Brain Donor: The album - Love, Peace & Fuck - has been put back
by one week. It is now scheduled for release during the first week of September.
I'll let you know the exact date as soon as I can. We've had lots of emails asking
if Brain Donor/Julian will be touring Europe in the next couple of months - no,
Julian is going to do some press in a few European cities in the beginning of
September and that's it. (There is, however, the likelihood of a solo Julian
Aberdeen date in October.) "

A couple of additions to Trampolene to talk about. I received
my cd and 7" copies of the new Brain Donor single from Head
Heritage the other day, so these have been added to the Juian
Cope Projects section, plus I have updated the Cope List to include
the shows from his 2001 tour:

A new location and a small re-jigging (again) of content. Glad
you were able to find us here, hopefully this location will be
here to stay for a while. Quite abit of news on the Cope front.
Another Brain Donor single released, called Get Off Your Pretty
Face b/w: Who Will Entertain Your Moron? and as always, available
from Head Heritage. The eagerly awaited Brain Donor album is
now set for release some time in August.

Trampolene has decided to take off from the site any articles
that have appeared in print in magazines, newspapers etc. This
is in part due to the copyright issue, and also the amount of
server space it takes up, but primarily it has more to do with
the fact that Trampolene started out as an on-line catalogue
of Cope's recordings and activities, and we want to get back
to that.
It has always been the aim to have Trampolene as a place where
other Cope heads can post reviews or photos they took, or anything
they think relevant, and so it will continue to display items
not found any where else. Sorry if this is a disappointment to
anyone. Hopefully it will encourage you to contribute something
of your own. having said all that, here are the items added to
trampolene:
- An Audience with The Cope 2001 Tour companion cd
- New section called Julian Cope Projects. It lists his work
with Queen Elizabeth, Brain Donor and L.A.M.F.
- 2000 Tour Flyer
- 2001 Tour Flyer
- Brain Donor Mental Phase Sound Flyer 2001
- Shepherds Bush Empire, November 17, 2000 Concert Ticket
- Leicester Princess Charlotte, May 5, 2001 Concert Ticket
- Blackheath Halls, May 11, 2001 Concert Ticket

A small re-jig here at Trampolene. A quick archive of the old
news and the previous first page now being eliminated so you
can get straight to the news, and what news there is...
Common Era returns after two glorious weeks in England. Attended
both the Leicester May 5th and Blackheath May 11th Audience with
the Cope shows and also finally got to meet the man-in-boots
in person. Full report and photos to follow shortly. But for
now, here's a shot of Julian doing his walkabout at Blackheath
Halls. Err, look out!

Other news is that Julian will not be appearing at Stirling
with Acid Mothers Temple, but may still appear at their Nottingham
appearance.
The ambient metal cd L.A.M.F. is now available, as is the Brain
Donor single "She Saw Me Coming". Another single by
Brain Donor is on the way and the album release is still set
for mid-July, to be titled Love Peace, and Fuck. Also on the
horizon is the sequel to The Modern Antiquarian, Let Me Speak
to the Driver, which promises to be along the same epic standards
.

A joyous springtime to one and all! The Cope tour looms on the
not too distant horizon and Trampolene is now set to attend both
the Leicester and Blackheath gigs. Available at the tour will
be the long awaited Brain Donor single She Saw Me Comin' b/w Shaman
UFO, available on both cd and 7" vinyl.

Also available will be the ambient metal cd L.A.M.F. (Like A
Mother Fucker), which should be interesting! An additional date
was added to the tour. Cope will now be bringing his show to
the Robin Hood 2, in Bilston, near Wolevrhampton on May 2nd.
Call 01348 637747 for tickets.
Finally, Head Heritage is proud to announce its first offspring
in the form of the fledgling Brain Donor site. With info and

Antiquarian, Let Me Speak to the Driver is in the works too.
Plus anyone who read Cope's latest Address Druidon at HH would
have read his comments about an upcoming ambient metal guitar
effects project called L.A.M.F.
